PLN EPI And Farmindo Multi Dimension Collaboration To Develop Waste Into Clean Energy

PT PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Farmindo Multi Dimension to develop waste management cooperation into a new and renewable energy source.

President Director of PLN Energi Primary Indonesia, Rakhmad Dewanto explained, currently PLN has implemented biomass cofiring in 52 units of PLTU with a target of utilizing up to 10 million tons of biomass by 2030.

"In addition, PLN is also developing biomass, waste-based, and biogas plants with a total capacity of almost 1 Gigawatt (GW)," he said, Thursday, October 23.

On the same occasion, PLN Bioenergy Director EPI Hokkop Situngkir emphasized that cooperation with Multi Dimension Farmindo is part of PLN's initiative to strengthen the green energy sector.

"At PLN EPI, we play a strategic role in the development of biomass, biogas, and waste management that can be converted into energy," explained Hokkop.

He explained that replacing 10 million tons of coal with biomass has the potential to reduce about 10 million tons of equivalence carbon emissions. According to him, this contribution is very significant for achieving Indonesia's climate commitment.

We hope that this MoU does not stop on paper. In the future there will be stages of due diligence and development of joint production facilities. This is not only for PLN, but also for answering national challenges in waste and emissions management," added Hokkop.

Hokkop also highlighted the urgent condition of national urban waste management. Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), waste growth in Indonesia reaches 80 percent per year, with large piles in Bantar Gebang of 8,000 tons per day, Legonangka of 3,000 tons per day, and Bali of 2,500 tons per day.

President Director of PT Farmindo Multi Dimension, Lim Dixon, expressed his appreciation and optimism for this strategic cooperation.

We have long discussed the importance of waste management. From the various regions we visited, almost all of them face big challenges related to waste. Even in Bali, known as the Island of the Gods, now the problem of waste is very worrying," he said.

He emphasized that collaboration with PLN EPI is not just a business project, but a form of shared responsibility for the nation.

"The cooperation between PLN EPI and PT Farmindo Multi Dimension is expected to be the beginning of the formation of a national bioenergy and biomass ecosystem, which is not only business-oriented, but also environmental sustainability and community welfare," he said.
