Strong Winds Hit Bondowoso, BPBD Records 68 Houses Damaged

BONDOWOSO - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bondowoso Regency, East Java, noted that 68 houses spread across two sub-districts were damaged by strong winds accompanied by heavy rains.

Acting (Plt) Head of BPBD Bondowoso Regency Kristianto said that after BPBD officers conducted an assessment of the impact of the strong winds that occurred on Wednesday, there were 68 damaged houses in a number of villages spread across Binakal and Curahdami sub-districts.

"So there are several villages in two sub-districts that have been affected by strong winds. Of the 68 houses that were damaged, three of them were heavily damaged, while 65 others were lightly damaged and moderately damaged," Kristiano said, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 23.

According to Kristianto, today the local government through related agencies, namely BPBD and the Social Service, has begun to distribute aid needs for communities affected by strong winds such as food or basic necessities.

In addition to providing basic food assistance for victims affected by the disaster, he continued, BPBD officers together with the TNI/Polri along with sub-district leadership forums and village governments evacuated fallen trees that closed village roads and sub-district roads.

"BPBD officers have since yesterday evacuated fallen trees at several points including the evacuation of fallen trees that hit residents' houses. Today, they continued to clean up bamboo trees that also fell onto the village road due to strong winds," said Kristianto.

According to information obtained, strong winds accompanied by heavy rain on Wednesday (22/10) yesterday afternoon destroyed dozens of houses in Binakal and Curahdami sub-districts, but in this incident there were no casualties.
