Puan Calls Prabowo's Step A Form Of The Directorate General Of Islamic Boarding Schools To Become A Special Gift On Santri Day!
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, welcomed the government's move to form the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Islamic Boarding Schools at the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag). According to Puan, President Prabowo Subianto's decision to approve the formation of the Directorate General right on Santri Day is a clear proof that the presence of the state in empowering Islamic boarding schools in the modern era.
"The President's approval of the establishment of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools is a special gift for all students on this year's National Santri Day, because it is clear evidence of the presence of the state in strengthening the education ecosystem and empowerment of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia," said Puan to reporters, Wednesday, October 23.
On the other hand, Puan assessed that the presence of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools would open up greater opportunities for strengthening the role of Islamic boarding schools in an institutional and strategic manner. Not only in the field of religious education, but also in the economic development of the people, digital literacy, to improving the quality of the students.
"I hope that the presence of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools will strengthen the governance of Islamic boarding schools, increase the capacity of students, and ensure pesantren becomes a pillar of empowering independent and competitive communities," said Puan.
Puan said that Santri Day 2025 is an important momentum to reaffirm the role of santri and pesantren as national moral guards as well as to drive the progress of Indonesian civilization in the modern era.
"Santri are not only guards of Islamic scientific traditions, but also important actors in the nation's future history," said Puan.
