Russia's Commitment To Build Kazakhstan's First Nuclear Power Plant

JAKARTA - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that his country is committed to Kazakhstan regarding the construction of the country's first nuclear power plant (PLTN).

"Russia is one of Kazakhstan's main trading partners, the largest investor in Kazakhstan's economy. A lot of attention is paid to help provide energy security through joint projects of thermal and hydro power plants," Lavrov said at a press conference after meeting Kazakh Foreign Minister, Ermek Kosherbaev, Wednesday, October 22, quoted from Tass.

Lavrov said his commitment was to follow up on the Russia-Kazakhstan meeting which was held in June 2025.

During the meeting, the delegations of the two countries agreed to appoint Russian company Rosatom to lead the first international consortium of PLTN development in Kazakhstan.

"I emphasize to my colleagues our readiness to carry out with good faith all our obligations in this field, on time and fully," said the top Russian diplomat.

"Relational authorities are currently reviewing technical and financial parameters, as well as legal details," he continued.
