For The Sake Of The Scudetto, Lazio Are Ready To Play A Play-off Match Against Juventus

JAKARTA - Lazio President Claudio Lotito will support the play-off with Juventus to decide the Serie A.

Juve are one point ahead of Lazio at the top of the standings when the Italian football season was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 or coronavirus pandemic.

Lockdown measures in Italy began to be eased from Monday, and there are plans to allow the team to return to training on May 18.

A decision has yet to be made on how the 2019-20 Serie A season will proceed. Currently Juve and Lazio still have 12 games to play, including a meeting at the Allianz Stadium originally scheduled for April 26.

The Capital Club won their first league meeting 3-1 in December and beat Juve in the Supercoppa Italiana three weeks later by the same score.

Lotito will back the idea of meeting one more time to finish the title if need be, especially as he believes Lazio's decision to focus on the league rather than the Europa League will no longer benefit his team as the fixtures will be busy if the season returns to full.

"In the first match against Juventus, we won 3-1, and in Supercoppa we won 3-1. And we still have to play the second match," said Lotito to La Repubblica. Launch of Italian Football, Tuesday, April 28.

"To be fair, teams like Inter, who have eight points less than us, or Atalanta, who have 14 points less - tell me if they should be involved.

"Yes, I will accept [play-offs]. We made choices, believing we couldn't play on three fronts: we sacrificed the Europa League, given that, for time and travel, it was the most uncomfortable competition.

"So, we will play once a week while the others play twice. If we start (competition) again, we all play twice a week, and we will lose the advantage. But I think about the interests of 20 clubs."
