French Open 2025: Alwi Beats Deputy Host
JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player, Alwi Farhan, defeated the host's seventh seed, Alex Lanier, to get a ticket to the second round of the French Open 2025.
The 2023 junior world champion secured a ticket after defeating his opponent two games long after 21-15 and 21-16 at the Glaz Arena on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, WIB night.
"Today I am grateful to be able to play well because I can control my doubts within myself," said Alwi in a statement received.
This is Alwi's second win over Lanier of their total three clashes in the competitive arena. His only defeat occurred in the round of 16 of the Japan Open 2025.

Alwi's first win over Lanier occurred in the Mixed Team Junior World Championship or BWF World Junior Championship in the 2023 edition.
"Of course I am happy with this victory, but of course in the future there will still be many exciting matches between me and Alex," he said.
In the second round, Alwi will meet Nhat Nguyen. The Irish men's singles badminton player secured the second round ticket after defeating Lakshya Sen (India).
"I have one day of recovery time, I want to reset first and use it as well as possible for me to prepare again in the next round," said Alwi.
Alwi is the second Indonesian men's singles to the second round. He followed in the footsteps of his senior Anthony Sinisuka Ginting who won over Lee Cheuk Yiu.
