The jewelry is decorated by thousands of diamonds and very valuable gemstones. The Minister of Home Affairs, Laurent Nunez, said that the stolen jewelry had a "treasure" price and "had an unexpected heritage value".

At a price that is priceless and has well-known historical value, thieves are said not to sell it in its entirety which further complicates the process of handling the case. The stolen crowns and diadems can be easily broken down and sold in small parts.

"It will not keep it intact, they (the robbers) will break it down, melt precious metals, cut back valuable stones and hide evidence of their crimes," concluded Art Recovery International chief executive.
