PMI East Java Exposed To The New COVID-19 Variant Experience Symptoms Of Muscle Pain And Fatigue

SURABAYA - The symptoms of the new COVID-19 variant are no different from COVID-19 before it mutates.

This was conveyed by the person in charge of the Lapangan Indrapura Hospital Surabaya, First Admiral of the TNI, I Dewa Gede Nalendra Djaya Iswara regarding two Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from East Java who were infected with the new variant of COVID-19.

"The symptoms of the new variant of the old corona are no different. They initially only felt symptoms of muscle pain and fatigue. Then the symptoms felt were the same as for COVID-19 patients in general. So, the symptoms were the same as for old COVID-19 patients", said Nalendra, confirmed, Wednesday, May 19.

But there are differences in the speed at which the new variant of COVID-19 spreads. COVID-19 strain B.117, which originated in the UK, spread 36 to 75 percent faster than the previous virus.

"The UK is approximately 36 to 75 percent of the speed. It is faster than the UK", he said.

Nalendra reminded that COVID-19 patients who are undergoing treatment at Lapangan Indrapura Hospital Surabaya, are not too worried even though there are patients who have contracted a new variant of COVID-19. His party has prepared guidelines and steps in handling it.

Nalendra only reminded all people to be more disciplined in implementing health protocols. He asked the public not to be complacent even though they had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

"We already have clinical guidelines. So if there is a new variant, the steps are all there", he said.

Previously, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, said that two new variants of the coronavirus had been detected in the local area. Namely the virus variant B.1351 from South Africa and B.117 from England. The two new variants of the coronavirus were brought by migrant workers from Jember and Sampang who had just returned from Malaysia.
