PSN PIK II Status Revoked, MUI: We Found A Difference In The Mangrove Area

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) asked the government to carry out strict supervision and evaluation after the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) II - Tropical Coastline project in Tangerang, Banten, was removed from the list of National Strategic Projects (PSN) by President Prabowo Subianto.

MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan said the revocation of PSN status needed to be followed by supervisory steps so that no party would continue to carry out development activities in the area.

"When cast status on the PSN list was revoked by the President, we found that there was a significant difference in the area of mangrove areas. Based on field data, Perhutani's mangrove forest, which was originally 17,055 hectares, now there are around 12,270 hectares left. This means that there are about 400 hectares of land that have changed function," Amirsyah said at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the alleged change in land function occurred due to development activities by the developer, even though the status of the project was no longer included in PSN.

"On the one hand, we appreciate the government policy that has revoked the status of this PSN. But on the other hand, we encourage monitoring and evaluation so that no particular parties do backfill or development activities outside the provisions," he said.

Amirsyah said that MUI also gave appreciation to the community and field volunteers who continue to monitor developments in the area as a form of public participation in maintaining environmental rights and the local community.

Amirsyah's statement is in line with the results of the decision of the 4th MUI National Working Conference (Mukernas) which officially stated its support for the government's move to remove PIK II from the PSN list.

MUI in its statement assessed that the revocation policy was appropriate, as stated in the Regulation of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Number 16 of 2025 dated September 24, 2025, which stipulates the elimination of the PIK II Tropical Coastline area from the list of National Strategic Projects.

The MUI Mukernas statement also stated that because the PSN status had been revoked, the land and houses that had previously been illegally acquired needed to be returned to their owners, and the government through the relevant ministries needed to process this so that the social rights of citizens were restored.

MUI in this case urged that the area be returned to its original function as a protected forest managed by Perum Perhutani and the Ministry of Environment (KLH).

"Recovery of mangrove forest areas is important to maintain natural balance and provide benefits for the surrounding community," said Amirsyah, who was accompanied by the Head of Information and Communication Division of MUI, Masduki Baidlowi.
