Belarusian Model Kidnapped And Killed In Myanmar, Allegedly A Victim Of Organ Trafficking
JAKARTA - The kidnapping and confinement cases targeting Koreans in Cambodia have recently increased rapidly. Now a similar incident has occurred in neighboring Thailand, where a foreign woman was found dead after her organs were allegedly taken by force by a human trafficking network.
According to a Daily Mail media report, the victim named Vera Kravtsova, a 26-year-old model in Belarus. He was known to have traveled to Bangkok, Thailand last month after receiving a part-time job offer message as a model and was invited for an interview.
However, when he arrived in Thailand, Kravtsova was immediately kidnapped by a local crime syndicate and taken to the Myanmar border. There, his passport and cellphone were confiscated, and experienced violence and threats. He was then forced to engage in cybercrime activities.
Reporting from The Chosun Daily's website, where he was brought is referred to as Camp, an unlawful area in northern Myanmar. This location is known as the center of operation for illegal cybercrimes run by a combination of criminal gangs from China and local militias.
People who are brought there are usually held captive and forced to commit online fraud, such as voice phishing and similar crimes. If they fail to achieve the target of profit, they are tortured, forced to death, or threatened with organs taken.
Kravtsova herself has reportedly been used as part of a romance scam scheme, in which she was asked to pretend to be in a relationship with a rich man to then deceive them emotionally and financially.
However, after being unable to meet the target of the profits set, Kravtsova was no longer allowed to move and contact with the outside world was cut off.
Some time later, the Kravtsova family received a message from the organization that read, "He's dead. Send 500 thousand US dollars or Rp. 8.2 billion if you want his body back."
When the family rejected the demands, they received a further message saying, "We have cremate his body. Don't look for him anymore."
Later, the family also received an anonymous message stating that Kravtsova was sold to an organ trading network, her organs were taken, then her body was burned to eliminate traces.
Prior to this tragedy, Kravtsova was known to live in Saint Petersburg, Russia, after graduating from college and working as a freelance model.
A source from the Myanmar police said, "Kravtsova was actually trapped from the start. The contacts received were not from the model agency, but from the criminal group," he said.
"He was taken directly from Thailand to northern Myanmar and sold as a slave," he continued.
