Kemiren Banyuwangi Osing Traditional Tourism Village Enters The World's Best Tourism Village Network Version Of UN Tourism

BANYUWANGI - Osing Kemiren Traditional Tourism Village, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, has officially entered the World's Best Tourism Village Network (The Best Tourism Villages Upgrade Programme 2025) organized by the United Nations Tourism, a tourism agency under the auspices of the United Nations (UN).

Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani said he was proud of this international recognition.

"This achievement is the fruit of the spirit of mutual cooperation and the strong commitment of the people of Banyuwangi, especially the residents of Kemiren, in preserving culture and developing sustainable tourism," said Ipuk in Banyuwangi, Antara, Sunday, October 19.

He said this achievement shows the strength of local culture and tourism that favor the environment and local wisdom.

The Kemiren Village shows that a village with strong cultural roots can advance and go global without losing its identity. This is an encouragement for us to continue to strengthen an inclusive, sustainable, and cultural-based tourism ecosystem," said Ipuk.

The determination of the Kemiren Traditional Tourism Village as part of the World's Best Tourism Village Network was announced at the Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism 2025 Ceremony & Third Annual Network Meeting which was held in Huzhou, China, on Friday (17/10).

This year, the event was attended by more than 270 tourist villages from 65 United Nations Tourism member countries. All participants were assessed through a rigorous selection process by an independent expert council.

The assessment criteria include potential and preservation of natural and cultural resources, economic, social and environmental sustainability; tourism development and local value chain integration; governance; infrastructure; as well as security and safety of tourists.

Of all participants, 72 villages were selected from Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East which were named part of the network.

With this achievement, Kemiren Village, which is mostly inhabited by the Osing Tribe, the Banyuwangi native tribe, is one of the global rural destinations recognized by UN Tourism.
