Sun Bear Enters Rejang Lebong Residents' Gardens, BKSDA Installs Nangka Traps Covered In Honey
REJANG LEBONG - Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) Section of the Bengkulu Region I Conservation set a sun bear trap, which has often entered residents' plantations in Bermani Ulu Raya District, Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu.
Head of the Conservation Section Region I BKSDA Bengkulu Said Jauhari said the protected animals were seen by residents eating jackfruit in a garden owned by residents of Babakan Baru Village.
"The bear is quite large. We have set traps near the jackfruit tree, with bait for jackfruit that has been smeared with honey," said Said in Rejang Lebong, Antara, Sunday, October 19.
He explained that the sun bear was thought to have come from the Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS) area, which is about one kilometer from a residential area.
In addition to setting traps, BKSDA together with the police and the TNI also supervise so that these animals do not return to settlements.
According to Said, from the results of field monitoring, the sun bear has returned to the TNKS area, but residents are advised to remain vigilant so as not to become victims.
Meanwhile, Head of the Rejang Lebong Communications and Informatics Agency, Upik Zumratul Aini, said Rejang Lebong Regent Muhammad Fikri had ordered the Acting Regional Secretary to handle the case of the entry of these protected animals in an integrated manner.
"There has been a cross-sector coordination meeting in Bermani Ulu Raya District, led by Acting Assistant I of the Regional Secretariat Rejang Lebong with BKSDA, Damkar, BPBD, Polhut, Koramil, Polsek, sub-district head, and village heads," said Upik.
