The Maluku Regional Police asked the six people who were on the wanted list (DPO) in the case of burning and destroying residents' houses in the Durian Patah Hunut area, Ambon, to immediately surrender and be cooperative in undergoing the legal process.
"We ask the six people who have been on the wanted list, namely BT, FW, GW, RW, SW, and ZN, to immediately surrender. Do not hide or run away. Face the legal process responsibly," said Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Police Kombes Rositah Umasugi in Ambon, Antara, Sunday, October 19.
The request is a follow-up to the handling of riots triggered by brawls between students on August 19, 2025.
The incident resulted in the death of a student at SMK Negeri 3 Ambon and sparked mass anger which led to the burning and destruction of a number of houses around the scene.
As a result of the incident, 17 houses were burned down and about 779 people or 156 families were forced to flee to safer places.
Rositah emphasized that the legal process against the perpetrators would be carried out in a professional, transparent manner, and in accordance with statutory provisions.
"The police will take firm action against any perpetrators of criminal acts that disturb the public and disturb security," he said.
He also appealed to the public to remain calm, not to be easily provoked by circulating issues, and to fully hand over the handling of cases to the police.
"The Maluku Police are committed to resolving this case completely," said Rositah.
Previously, the Maluku Regional Police had named six new suspects in the case of alleged destruction and burning of houses in Hunut Village, Ambon, namely BT, FW, GW, RW, SW, and ZN.
