Pontianak Police Handle 21 Crime Cases In 1 Month

The Pontianak Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) together with the Polsek ranks managed to handle 21 crime cases in 1 month or during September 2025 by arresting 35 suspects, consisting of 32 men and two women.

"Of all the cases handled, the type of theft of motorized vehicles (curanmor) was the most revealed, namely eight cases. Followed by ordinary theft and theft with six cases each, and one case of violent theft (curas)," said Deputy Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pontianak Police, AKP Agus Haryono in Pontianak, Sunday, October 19.

He explained that most of the theft cases occurred in residential areas and crowded centers. Many vehicles were stolen due to the negligence of the owner, such as leaving the keys on the motorbike or not locking the handlebar.

"For this reason, we urge the public to be more vigilant and use double locks," he said.

Of the total 21 cases, 11 cases have been investigated and transferred to the prosecutor's office (phase two), eight cases are still in the process of being investigated, and one case each is resolved through a diversion and restorative justice (RJ).

As evidence, the police also confiscated seven motorbikes, two cell phones, a laptop, a number of electronic devices, and several livestock proceeds from crime.

Agus added that most of the perpetrators were unemployed and drug users, who committed crimes to get money to buy methamphetamine.

"Most of these perpetrators do not have permanent jobs and some of them are drug users. The proceeds of their crimes are used to buy methamphetamine," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Pontianak Police, AKP Wagitri, emphasized that the community negligence factor was still the main cause of the increase in theft cases in the Pontianak area. He invited residents to increase vigilance and participation in maintaining environmental security.

"People are advised to use double locks, park in a safe place, and not leave valuables in the vehicle," he said.

He also reminded residents to be careful when walking or driving on public roads.: Save bags on the inside of the body and avoid playing with cellphones on the road to prevent robbery," added the Deputy Minister.

In addition, the public was asked to ensure that the door, window, and fence of the house were tightly locked, even though they were only left temporarily.

"Reactivate environmental security systems such as patrol posts or patrols with residents. Report immediately to the nearest Polsek or Bhabinkamtibmas if you find suspicious activity. Police service 110 is ready to help the community 24 hours," he said.

Pontianak Police hopes that, with increased awareness and participation of residents, the number of crimes can continue to be suppressed, especially towards the end of the year which is usually followed by increased community activities in public spaces.
