Unaffected By The Penalty Show, Bezzecchi Wins Sprint Race And Secures The Front Of The 2025 Australian MotoGP

JAKARTA - Marco Bezzecki shot up in Australia's MotoGP despite being overshadowed by a double long lap penalty in the main race, Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Phillip Island Circuit.

In the Qualification session, the Aprilia racer successfully secured the start of second place (+0.031), between Fabio Quartararo (1 minute 26.465 seconds) and the host, Jack Miller (+0.212).

Francesco Bagnaia and Brad Binder will each get a three-place grid penalty on Sunday.

Bagnaia was punished for detaining Bezzecchi in the qualification. Meanwhile, Binder was sanctioned for the same offense against Johann Zarco.

The punishment clearly made it difficult for Bagnaia, who is currently trying to catch up with Alex Marquez for second place in the 2025 MotoGP standings.

Alex Marquez, a Gresini racer, qualified as the top Ducati rider by securing the sixth position, in a difficult session for Desmosedici, although he had fallen twice in that phase.

However, seeing Bezzecki's performance - who is only eight points adrift of Bagnaia in the drivers' standings - it's not impossible that he will damage Ducati's dominance which is now in the top three.

Bezzecki showed this ambition when he won the 2025 Australian MotoGP Sprint Race, Saturday, October 18, 2025, at noon WIB, so he got an additional 12 points.

Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia could not add many points. Marc Marquez's younger brother is only finsi in sixth position (4 points), more for Pecco, who only ranks 19th, thus failing to get points.

The fight until the end of the 2025 MotoGP season seems to be exciting by only involving Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez and Bagnaia to fight in the top three.

You see, Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin, and Maverick Vinales were all absent due to injury until the season was over and replaced by test riders Michele Pirro, Lorenzo Savadori, and Pol Espargaro.
