Modest Fashion Exports Increase 83 Percent, Ministry Of Industry Prepares Competitive Dongkrak Kicks
The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) seeks to encourage the development of the modest fashion industry as one of the potential sectors to strengthen national export performance.
The Ministry of Industry believes that Indonesia has a great opportunity to become a major player in the global modest fashion industry.
Modest fashion prioritizes a polite and closed fashion style and is often identified with Muslim fashion.
The market potential for these products is increasing along with the growth of the world's Muslim population and consumer awareness of ethical dress styles.
Direktur Jenderal Industri Kecil, Menengah dan Aneka (IKMA) Kemenperin Reni Yanita mengatakan, Indonesia tak hanya berperan sebagai pasar, tetapi juga berpotensi menjadi produsen dan pelaku utama industri modest fashion dunia.
Reni said, the export value of modest fashion Indonesia to the countries of members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2023 reached 990 million US dollars, an increase of about 83 percent compared to the previous year's 540 million US dollars.
"This achievement places Indonesia in seventh place as the country with the highest export value to OIC countries, after China, Turkey and India," Reni said in her official statement, quoted on Saturday, October 18.
Meanwhile, based on the State of Global Islamic Economy Report (SGIER) in 2023, Muslim consumer spending in the six main sectors reached US$2.43 trillion and is projected to increase 5.3 percent to US$3.36 trillion in 2028.
This shows great opportunities for national modest fashion industry players.
According to Reni, Indonesia's potential in the industry is also supported by the large number of clothing business actors in the IKM sector.
Furthermore, data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2024 noted that there were 594,000 units of the small clothing industry that absorbed around 1.2 million workers.
In addition, the creativity of local designers, cultural wealth and the diversity of textile materials are also additional strengths to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global market.
To increase competitiveness, the Ministry of Industry encourages business actors to continue to innovate in the design, quality and branding of products.

"We want the collaboration between the clothing industry to be local and the IKM sector to create a wide multiplier effect," he said.
He emphasized that the government is ready to cooperate with various stakeholders to strengthen the national fashion modest industry ecosystem.
One of the strategic steps is to organize various events and fashion exhibitions, such as the Indonesia International Modest Fashion Festival (IN2MOTIONFEST) 2025, which is a forum for domestic industry players to showcase works, expand markets and strengthen business networks.
IN2MOTIONFEST is part of the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2025, which will be held on October 8-12 2025. The event is the result of a collaboration between Bank Indonesia and Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC).
