AYG 2025 Matches Four Pencak Silat Numbers
JAKARTA The 2025 Asian Youth Games (AYG) officially included pencak silat in the sport (sports) medals after previously being only a demonstration sport.
Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia), Raja Sapta Oktohari, said that the host Bahrain entered the pencak silat after receiving a request from President Prabowo Subianto.
"The two organizing countries were finally willing to hold pencak silat before the activity started and was included in the medal for the Asian Youth Games," he said.
Pencak silat is one of 21 sports participated by Indonesia in this youth group event. Overall the 2025 Asian Youth Games will compete in 26 sports.

The four pencak silat numbers that were also competed were 51'55 kg and 59'64 kg of men and daughters.
The rest of the sports that Indonesia is participating in are aquatics, athletics, badminton, 3 x 3, camel racing, bicycles, esports, equestrians, golf, jiu-jitsu, judo, mixed martial arts (MMA), muaythai, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, weightlifting, teqball, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, and kurash.
Chef de Mission (CdM) of the 2025 Asian Youth Games, Akbar Nasution, said that this event was part of the regeneration of athletes, especially preparations to compete in the 2026 Youth Olympic Games Dakar.
"Our focus is on the process of achieving the target. Success or victory can occur when the training process is carried out as well as possible, which of course will produce maximum results," said Akbar.
The 2025 Asian Youth Games are scheduled to take place on 22-31 October 2025 in Manama, Bahrain. Indonesia sent 123 athletes and 51 coaches there.
The Indonesian delegation to AYG 2025 was confirmed by Raja Sapta Oktohari and released by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, on Friday, October 17, 2025.
In addition to the 2025 AYG contingent, Erick Thohir also officially released 38 athletes to compete in the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games (ASG) in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. Pencak silat also appeared, but was not included in the medal.
