Kaspersky Finds Fraud Sites That Take Advantage Of Demon Slayer's Popularity

JAKARTA - Kaspersky managed to find a fraudulent website in various languages, exploiting the popularity of the film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, which recently premiered in several countries.

The global cybersecurity company said that through this scam, the attackers created a fake website that claims to offer free access to the new film in a voice in the user's original language.

However, when visitors try to play a video, a fake player appears, prompting them to sign up to be able to access the film and receive "infinite access" to the content of the platform.

To register and continue watching movies, users are asked to provide personal information, such as email addresses and, in some cases, cell phone numbers, in addition to creating passwords.

The next step from this fake registration is to request banking details under the guise of "free trial", which puts users at the risk of credential theft, especially if the same password is used in several accounts, and potential financial losses.

"We strongly encourage users to access content only through official platforms to protect their personal data and avoid financial losses," said Olga Altukhova, Senior Web Content Analyst at Kaspersky.
