Meta Will Stop Messenger Apps For Windows And Mac

JAKARTA Meta announced that it will close the Messenger desktop application in December. This closure of the app applies to Windows and Mac-based devices.

After Meta officially removes its app, users won't be able to reuse its app. Instead, they are directed to visit Messenger via Facebook's official website.

Appleinsider first discovered this termination plan before it was finally confirmed by Meta. The company is also starting to notify users of the upcoming changes so they have time to get used to themselves.

Users currently using the desktop app will receive notifications within the app. Messenger's help page states, "You have 60 days to use the Messenger Mac app before it is completely discontinued."

Apart from visiting Messenger via the Facebook.com site, users also have other alternatives. If they are more comfortable with app options, they can use the Facebook desktop app to access chat features.

Before switching to the web version, Meta advises users to save their chat history first. This is an important step to ensure that all conversation history will remain available.

To check the conversation history storage status, users can click the setting icon, select Privacy and Security, then select a thoroughly encrypted Chat. After that, click Message Storage and make sure the 'Active secure storage' option is active.
