PKB Faction Please Immediately Inaugurate The Director General Of Islamic Boarding Schools

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from the PKB faction, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, responded to the discourse on the formation of a special Directorate General in handling Islamic boarding schools under the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), after the collapse of one of the buildings at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), Sidoarjo.

Cucun supports that the Boarding School Directorate be upgraded to become the Directorate General, in order to strengthen the authority and institutional capacity in fostering pesantren in the country.

"Not because the Ministry of Religion's factors have decreased, the Director General of PHU. The urgency is because there is one interest in managing Islamic boarding schools, it's not just taking care of 10-20 people, millions of people. And this is an educational institution that must be managed properly by the state, the state is present. And the legal umbrella already exists, the pesantren law," said Cucun at the DPR building, Jakarta, Thursday, October 16.

Because there are specialities, continued Cucun, there are differences between Islamic education in general or formally and the informal pesantren.

"Therefore, it must be handled by, although yes, the class of the directorate general is not as big as Islamic education, pendis. So later we will try the Ministry of Religion in terms of working unit to have a directorate general of pesantren," he continued.

Regarding the deadline for the Director General of Islamic Boarding Schools to be inaugurated, Cucun hopes that soon. Even so, the Deputy PKB wants an academic study regarding the increase in the status of the Islamic Boarding School Directorate to become the Director General of Islamic Boarding Schools under the Ministry of Religion.

"Yes, I want it as soon as possible, because an academic study must be studied from the Ministry of Religion itself. Then you have to leave, for example, a pendis, there is a director who takes care of pesantren. It must first leave the pendis, then the directorate general can be realized," concluded Cucun.
