Chrome For Android Will Present Automatic Picture-in-Picture Features, Make Multitasking More Smooth
JAKARTA - Google is again preparing an important upgrade for Chrome users on Android. This time, the tech giant is developing an automatic Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature that allows users to keep playing videos or audio while switching tabs, without having to stop media playback.
This new feature will automatically turn the media into a small window floating inside the Chrome app when the user switches to another tab. That way, multitasking activities such as listening to podcasts while reading news or watching videos while opening another page can be done without interruption.
Information about this feature was first revealed through a Reddit user upload named Leopeva64-2. In his findings, he showed that Chrome will soon support the ability to automatically minimize the medium in the browser when the user leaves the player tab. Although it looks simple, this update brings significant changes to users who often do many things at once on Chrome.

Unlike the widely known Android system PiP feature, this new feature will work fully within the Chrome application. This means that the video player mini window will not float outside the browser, but will remain within the application itself.
Imagine the scenario: you're listening to news broadcasts on one tab, then switching to another tab to open an email or find a food prescription. Instead of stopping, the video or audio will shrink and keep appearing in the corner of the screen. Users can also continue to enjoy content without losing focus on other activities.
In fact, this feature is not really new in the world of Chrome. This desktop browser version has long had similar capabilities. Now, Google is trying to bring the experience to mobile devices to align with the desktop version, while increasing the comfort of mobile phone and tablet users in enjoying content or working multitasking.
Interestingly, users are still given full control. Chrome will provide a special setting that allows users to enable or disable this automatic PiP feature for certain sites. That way, not all sites will automatically play the media in mini mode, but according to the user's preferences.
Although there is no official launch date yet, the development of this feature shows that Google is in the advanced testing phase. If it is actually launched, this automatic Picture-in-Picture feature will be a small addition but has a big impact on the surfing experience on Android Chrome to make it smarter, more efficient, and friendly for today's multitasking users
