Meta Collaborates With Arm Holdings To Power AI Recommendations On Facebook And Instagram
Jakarta Meta Platforms announced a strategic partnership with chip technology company Arm Holdings to strengthen the artificial intelligence (AI) system used in its personalization features in its various applications, including Facebook and Instagram.
This collaboration will take advantage of Arm's architectural-based data center platform to support Meta's AI rating and recommendation system which is at the core of the user experience in finding and adjusting content in these social media applications.
This step is also a major validation for Arm technology, which has been competing with Intel's x86 architecture and AMD. Arm is known to provide a basic chip design that determines the processor's capabilities and applications it can run. Arm-based approaches are claimed to provide higher performance with lower power consumption than x86-based systems.

Although Arm-based chips have dominated the world's smartphone market, now the technology is starting to penetrate private computer markets and server processors of areas previously controlled by Intel and AMD.
In addition, Meta also announced a $1.5 billion investment for the construction of a new data center in Texas, which will be the company's 29th facility globally. The data center will focus on dealing with the huge workload of artificial intelligence development.
Meta and Arm say they have worked together to customize the AI Meta infrastructure software to be compatible with Arm architecture, and the results of the development will be released as an open source project that can be used freely by anyone. This effort is expected to accelerate Arm-based technology adoption by expanding software compatibility across the industry.
