China Steps On Gas To Build 28 Million Charging Points, Targets Fulfilling The Needs Of 80 Million Electric Cars
JAKARTA China has again shown its seriousness in leading the world's electric vehicle era. The Bamboo Curtain country has just launched a three-year action plan to build 28 million EV charging facilities across the country by 2027.
This big step is expected to be able to meet the needs of more than 80 million electric vehicles that are predicted to advance on China's roads in the next few years. This ambitious program was initiated by China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) along with a number of other ministries.
The main focus is to expand the fast charging network in big cities, add facilities in toll road rest areas, and strengthen charging infrastructure in residential and rural areas. The government also encourages the participation of the private sector so that investment in this field is more massive.
According to an official report, as of August 2025, China has had around 17.35 million charging points, an increase of 53.5 percent compared to the same period the previous year. This rapid growth makes China the country with the largest electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the world, and is still growing rapidly.

With the charging network getting closer to users, one of the main obstacles in electric car adoption, namely travel concerns, will decrease. This effort is not just an infrastructure project, but an important milestone in the transformation of the global automotive industry.
In addition to expanding physical networks, the Chinese government is also paying attention to smart technologies in the charging sector, such as digital payment systems, AI-based energy management, and mobile charging services.
This innovation is expected to make the experience of EV users faster, easier, and more efficient. With this massive plan, China seems to emphasize that the transition to emission-free mobility is not just a discourse.
