Banten Governor's Mediation Ended the Strike at SMAN 1 Cimarga After the Principal Slapped a Student.
JAKARTA - A total of 634 students at SMAN 1 Cimarga in Lebak Regency have returned to school after mediation by Banten Governor Andra Soni, who invited the principal and parents.
"This issue has been resolved peacefully, and the students can return to their studies as usual," said Adang Abdurrahman, Acting Head of the Senior High School Division of the Banten Province Education and Culture Office, in Lebak on Thursday, as reported by Antara.
The student strike at SMAN 1 Cimarga was the result of the principal slapping a student who was caught smoking on school grounds.
He said this incident was quite concerning, resulting in 634 students being absent from school for two days, Monday and Tuesday (October 13-14).
Therefore, he reminded students to prevent a similar incident from happening again, as it would be detrimental to the students themselves, especially the 12th grade students who are preparing for exams.
"We hope the students will study seriously to achieve academic success and also to be accepted into state universities," he said.
Chair of PGRI Lebak Regency, Iyan Fitriyana said that his office held a meeting with the school principal, the student's parents, and a lawyer representing the family to discuss the matter and achieve peace.
Governor Andra Soni himself also mediated between the principal, Dini Fitria, and the student's parents, Resti Komalasari.
Similarly, in Lebak, mediation was conducted by the Lebak Regional Secretary (Sekda), the Chairperson of the Indonesian Teachers' Association (PGRI), a member of the Banten Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), and the student's parents' lawyer.
