The Deputy Health Minister Reveals Food Nutrition Levels, Says Traffic Light-Like Markers Will Be Used
JAKARTA - The Indonesian government is currently preparing Nutri-level food labeling. Nutri-level is a labeling system on food packaging regarding sugar, salt, and fat (GGL) content.
The Indonesian Deputy Minister of Health, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, revealed that the Nutri-level will be designed in the form of a traffic light-like marker. Colors include red, yellow, and green, indicating the amount of GGL in the food.
The Nutri-level food labeling aims to better educate the public about the nutritional content and ingredients used in the food they consume. This is expected to encourage greater public awareness of the healthiness of the food they consume.
"We will create Nutri-levels to raise public awareness that the foods they consume contain specific amounts of calories, fat, sugar, and salt. It's like having a red, yellow, and green light," said Dante when met at MOI, North Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The Ministry of Health believes that simple labels and familiar visuals will be more effective in educating the public than nutrition tables, which have been difficult to understand.
Besides Dante also stated that discussions regarding Nutri-Level are currently underway with relevant ministries. These discussions include the procedures for implementing Nutri-Level.
"We are currently discussing the plan, especially regarding its implementation," Dante concluded.
