Airlangga Calls Indonesia's Digital Economy Without Fear Of Tariffs

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto also highlighted the successful implementation of the QR code-based digital payment system, namely the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS).

According to him, the strength of Indonesia's digital economy is an important support in facing various global challenges, including the issue of the reciprocal tariff which was recently discussed, as was raised by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Airlangga mengungkapkan, nilai ekonomi digital Indonesia akan mencapai 150 miliar pada tahun 2025 akan didorong oleh implementasi QRIS yang kini penggunaannya telah meluas, bahkan ke luar negeri.

"So don't worry, in the digital field, we lose, we are digital, we are very powerful. In fact, our digital economy is 150 billion US dollars and the digital economy (RI) is not afraid of tariffs. Because the goods can run," he said at the Prabowo-Gibran Government 1 Year event, Thursday, October 16.

He added that QRIS users currently reach 56 million, exceeding the number of credit card users in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Indonesian Credit Card Association (AKKI) as of June 2025, the number of credit cards circulating was recorded at 18.8 million.

"QRIS apparently overtook the use of credit cards. That's why various operators are starting to see how fast we can move and the number of QRIS users is 56 million. So we have resilience," he said.

In addition, Airlangga said that Indonesia has collaborated with a number of countries through the Local Currency Transaction (LCT) scheme to expand the use of QRIS.

"National countries that have collaborated with Indonesia include Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, China, Korea and the United Arab Emirates," he said.

In addition, through the Local Currency Transaction (LCT) agreement, RI has collaborated with a number of countries to implement QRIS.

Thus, later, QRIS can be used in Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, China, Korea to the United Arab Emirates.

He conveyed that one of the indicators of digital economic growth can be seen from the growth of the logistics and warehousing sector which reaches 8 percent far above the national economic growth average.

"One of the things that supports, one of the signs of digital economic development is the logistics and warehouse business which grew 8 percent. Far above economic growth," he said.
