This SPKLU Can Charge Electric Vehicles For Only 10 Minutes Next Year

JAKARTA - ChargePoint is preparing to launch an ultra-fast charging station with a capacity of 600 kilowatts (kW) in the United States in 2026. This step is part of the company's efforts to strengthen electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the future.

According to an InsideEVs report, Thursday, October 16, this 600 kW charging technology was developed with energy company Eaton and will be used on the ChargePoint public charging network in various locations.

With such a large capacity, battery charging can be done in just about 10 minutes, provided that the electric vehicle supports such a large power. Unfortunately, there are no commercial electric cars in the United States capable of receiving 600 kW of power, so this technology is more 'future-ready'.

Later, this Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) also claims that this latest system will be able to reduce installation and operational costs by up to 30 percent compared to conventional fast chargers. The design is also 30 percent more concise, so it is more efficient in using space in public areas and roadside charging facilities.

This new technology uses a power block based modular system, in which several units can be combined to generate up to 1.8 megawatts (MW) in total. ChargePoint is also developing Express Grid technology.

Where, enabling direct charging of DC energy sources at the site, such as storage batteries or solar power plants. This step can help reduce the load of the power grid while reducing operating costs by up to 30 percent.

Although promising, challenges remain. Most of the electricity infrastructure in the United States is not yet fully ready to handle a load of 600 kW. Therefore, the initial implementation will focus on areas with high electric capacity or commercial areas that are equipped with adequate technical support.

The strongest charger in Europe generally reaches 420 kW of power, although this is quite rare. In the US, Gravity currently offers the strongest existing charger, which provides up to 500 kW of power.

However, only a few EVs are currently sold at charging power of more than 350 kW. Like Lucid Gravity can accommodate 400 kW of power, and next year it will be followed by BMW iX3 and Porsche Cayenne EV, which will match it.
