Student Phone Thief In Bogor Battered Beaten By Mass

BOGOR - A man with the initials BD (22) was caught red-handed stealing cellphones belonging to Pakuan University (Unpak) students in Bogor City, West Java, Wednesday, October 15 and was targeted by the masses before being arrested by the police.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Bogor Police, Ipda Budi Setiawan, explained that the incident occurred when the victim was charging his iPhone in the campus area and leaving it for a moment. When he returned, the cellphone and charger were gone.

The victim and his friend tracked down the whereabouts of the cellphone and it is known that they are still around the campus. After a search was carried out, the perpetrator was found," Budi said when confirmed in Bogor, Wednesday night.

When checked, the victim's cellphone was found under the control of BD. The perpetrator tried to evade and return the stolen goods, but the emotional masses had judged him.

"The perpetrator was already battered when we secured him. We are currently asking for further information," he said.

Budi added that the perpetrators were residents of Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi, who rented a house in the Bubulak area, Bogor City. "The perpetrator admitted to living alone in the rented house," he said.

Police are still investigating the possibility of the perpetrators being involved in other theft cases with similar modes around the campus environment.
