BYD Adds Ammunition In Southeast Asia Through Two Super Hybrid Models In Cambodia

JAKARTA BYD continues to show its expansion aggressiveness in the global market. This time, the Chinese manufacturer officially launched two flagship models in Cambodia, namely BYD Seal 5 Super Hybrid and BYD M9 Super Hybrid.

Quoting from the CNEVPost page, Wednesday, October 15, BYD M9 comes as a premium MPV targeting the family segment, while Seal 5 is a sedan equivalent to Seal 05 DM-i in the Chinese domestic market. Both carry the latest BYD hybrid technology that offers high efficiency as well as impressive performance.

The presence of these two models further strengthens BYD's position as the leader of electrified vehicles in the Southeast Asia region. Since officially entering the Cambodian market, BYD has continued to expand its business network. Currently, BYD has operated seven sales dealers and one full-time service center in Phnom Penh. It does not stop there, the company targets to have 13 exhibition rooms and six full-time service centers sold across the country before the end of the year.

The results also look real. As of September 30, 2025, BYD vehicle shipments in Cambodia reached 2,990 units, up to 497 percent compared to the same period last year.

Not only focusing on sales, BYD is also building a strong foundation for local production. Currently, the BYD passenger vehicle assembly plant in Sihanoukville is entering its final stages of construction. The CKD (Completely Knocked Down) status facility stands in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, after the groundbreaking was carried out in April.

The construction of the factory is targeted to be completed this October, with the initial production of BYD electric vehicles in Cambodia scheduled to launch from the assembly line in early November 2025. This step marks BYD's commitment to strengthening its regional presence as well as presenting electrified vehicles more easily accessible to the Cambodian people.
