Kate Bush Takes Advantage Of Art And Music To Help Children Victims Of War

JAKARTA - The singer-songwriter from England, known for her theatrical and experimental performance, Kate Bush, invited 52 visual artists to create works inspired by her phenomenal hit song, Running Up That Hill.

The project was initiated by Bush to provide benefits for the humanitarian organization War Child, which works exclusively to increase the resilience and well-being of children living in the midst of war and armed conflict.

All the wars left terrible wounds; life is broken, family is torn apart, life-changing injury, trauma, and loss on a large scale but it is the children who suffer the most in many ways. The past, the present, and their future are destroyed and become fear and uncertainty," Bush said, quoted by NME, Wednesday, October 15.

For the annual Sound & Vision 'fundraising an auction held by War Child', the artwork created must take inspiration from Kate Bush's iconic lyrics. This charity event also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the song 'Running Up That Hill' as well as the album that houses it, Hunds of Love.

More important than ever for us to support War Child and their invaluable work in providing immediate assistance to children trapped in worldwide conflicts, including in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, and Syria, the 67-year-old singer said.

"Proyeks like Sound & Vision use the power of art and music to make real differences for children living in the middle of war," he added.

Meanwhile, the lyrics chosen directly by Bush from the song that went viral thanks to the Stranger Things series are: "If I could only, I'd make a deal with God" (If I could, I would agree with God).

Names of well-known visual artists, including Maggi Hambling CBE, Peter Doig, Charlie Calder-Potts, and Corlind Shaw, also participated among the 52 artists involved.

The works of art will be exhibited at the Iconic Images Gallery from November 4 to 8. The exhibition will continue with an online auction which runs from October 28 to November 13. All auction bids will be opened from 100 pounds through the Givergy platform.
