Volkswagen Ready To Launch ID.UNYX 07 Electric Sedan For China Market

JAKARTA Volkswagen is reportedly preparing to launch a new electric sedan called ID.UNYX 07, which is a special Chinese market version of Volkswagen ID.7. The model was developed by Volkswagen Anhui, the result of a partnership between Volkswagen and local company Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).

Reporting from ArenaEV, Tuesday, October 14, in a document submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT), the official launch of this vehicle is getting closer.

Despite using the same MEB platform as the global ID.7, Volkswagen did a number of refreshes to the design. ID.UNYX 07 comes with a new front and back view, including a light and a redesigned backlight, giving a more sporting and futuristic impression.

"This model looks like the evolution of ID.7, but in a bolder style and adapted to Chinese market tastes," ArenaEV wrote in its report.

In terms of dimensions, ID.UNYX 07 has a length of 4,853 mm, a width of 1,852 mm, a height of 1,566 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,826 mm. This size makes it slightly shorter and narrower than ID.7, but higher, resulting in a more compact and dynamic look.

For performance, this electric sedan uses one electric motor with a power of 228 hp (170 kW) and an instant torque typical of electric vehicles. The energy is supplied from a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery made by Gotion High-tech, a local supplier known to produce high-resistant batteries and an efficient cost.

Volkswagen Anhui chose the LFP battery to offer a balance between costs, durability and performance," the report added.

Volkswagen Anhui is currently undergoing a public response process that runs from October 10 to 15, according to Chinese government regulations before the official launch of new vehicles. This is a strong indication that ID.UNYX 07 is ready to enter mass production lines in the near future.

The model also strengthens the ID.UNYX family portfolio, after Volkswagen Anhui launched the ID.UNYX SUV in June 2024 and ID.UNYX 06 earlier this year. The presence of this third model demonstrates Volkswagen's commitment to expanding the ranks of electric vehicles in the world's largest automotive market.

Although there is no official information regarding the price yet, analysts estimate that the tag will be more affordable than global ID.7. If launched in Indonesia, the price of ID.UNYX 07 is estimated to reach around IDR 700 million to IDR 900 million, depending on the variants and import duties in effect.
