Ignasius Jonan Officially Inaugurated As Minister Of Energy And Mineral Resources In History Today, October 14, 2016

JAKARTA History today, nine years ago, October 14, 2016, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated Ignasius Jonan as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). Jokowi's decision was criticized by many parties. Jokowi is considered a plot of dismantling the ministerial pairs.

Previously, Jonan was known for his big role in reforming the Indonesian Railway (KAI). He was later appointed as Minister of Transportation (Menhub). His position as Minister of Transportation did not run smoothly and was removed.

The train was once the mainstay of transportation for many people. However, this fact was not supported by good management improvements. KAI services are far from satisfactory. Stations to carriages are far from interesting. Not to mention the facilities that are considered outdated.

This condition made people think twice about taking the train -- especially long-distance trains. However, everything changed when Ignasius Jonan led KAI since 2009. Jonan dedicated his time to understand the ins and outs of KAI problems.

He tried trains and KAI facilities. He visited the station to the station. Jonan found many problems. The procurement of goods is not transparent. The corruption gap is everywhere. that condition made him change the orientation of the organization from the product oriented to the focustomer focused.

The station is repaired. Train carriages are occupied. Jonan also began to eliminate the inner-city economic train. He also began to control passengers. There is no more story about passengers not paying. The reform made people comfortable using trains.

A reform that made Jokowi attracted. Jokowi then appointed Jonan as Minister of Transportation. The hope is that Jonan can present a breakthrough in transportation matters and problems in Indonesia. However, Jonan's journey as Minister of Transportation was not smooth.

Jonan is faced with the issue of himself opposing the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project. The project was considered by Jonan to have suffered many harm, rather than benefits. Something that allegedly made Jonan removed from the position of Minister of Transportation on July 27, 2016.

"I am ready to be picked up and ready to be dismissed. I never asked. If it is considered that my value is bad, I just need to take it off, how come it's a hassle. So far, my work has been maximized. If you are told to serve as another field, it depends."

"Whether I can afford it or not. If I was told to serve as Foreign Minister, God willing, I could and I was still ready. But if I was told to become minister of empowerment and women, I would still think," said Jonan before he was fired as quoted on the Sindonews page, December 28, 2015.

The decision to remove Jonan has become a polemic. All Indonesians can't stop thinking about Jokowi's way of thinking. However, the news of Jonan's removal has not subsided. Jokowi also started a new breakthrough. He then appointed Jonan as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources on October 14, 2016.

The inauguration took place at the State Palace. Jokowi admitted that he chose Jonan because he was in good management. Jonan is considered capable of solving a series of problems related to ESDM. Even though Jokowi's decision became the subject of questions from many people in the future.

"If the reason President Jokowi appointed Jonan for management reasons, why was Jonan fired from the Minister of Transportation? This is strange. Now he said that he appointed Jonan as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources because Jonan was smart in management. Well, it used to mean that Jonan was fired because he was smart in management too? This is how logic is," said Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Fahri Hamzah as quoted by Sampas.com, October 17, 2016.
