Bone Scan 2025 Data Reveals Osteoporosis Risk Surge, Experts Remind The Importance Of Active Lifestyle
JAKARTA - Osteoporosis is known as a disease that slowly weakens the bones without obvious symptoms. This disease is often called silent disease because bone loss can occur without realizing it, causing severe fractures or pain.
Age factors, less nutritious diet, lack of physical activity, and low intake of calcium and vitamin D are the main causes. Therefore, maintaining bone health from a young age is an important step to stay active until old age.
The Indonesian Osteoporosis Association (PEROSI) released the 2025 Bone Scan Data which shows a surprising fact, namely the risk of osteoporosis increasing by an average of 20% every 10 years of age. The results of this survey are based on scans of more than 400,000 people in 16 cities in Indonesia.
Therefore, keeping bones healthy does need to be done throughout life. Even though bones are formed from a child's age, bone density reached its peak at the age of 30 and then decreased with age. Therefore, an active lifestyle and consumption of bone nutrition are the main keys.
"Osteoporosis is silent disease and requires prevention from an early age, so don't wait for pain to come or age first. Check bone density, fulfill nutrition, and move actively every day. Consistent prevention is the key to being able to move freely until an advanced age," said the General Chairperson of PEROSI, Dr. dr. Tamin, Sp.KFR, MS(K), FIPM(USG) in ANlene's press statement to VOI.

Doctor way to explain, osteoporosis prevention should start early, even before symptoms appear. The simplest step is to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Prevention can be started by maintaining a healthy diet and optimal intake of bone nutrients, for example from low-fat calcium, vitamin D, protein, and collagen high-fat milk.
"In addition, according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, do regular exercise at least 150 minutes per week. Choose weight-beaming exercise, such as walking 10,000 steps per day," he explained.
Weight-beaming exercise is considered an activity that holds its own weight, such as walking, light running, or dancing, which has proven to help strengthen the bones and support muscles.
No less important than physical activity, proper nutritional intake also plays an important role in maintaining bone density. Especially calcium and adequate vitamin D. These two nutrients are believed to help maintain bone strength and joint flexibility.
"Tulang needs calcium and vitamin D in sufficient quantities, which can be obtained from milk, fish, eggs, and nuts. Other nutrients such as magnesium and omega-3 also help maintain bone strength and joint flexibility," he explained.
In line with this message, President Director of Fonterra Brands Indonesia, Yauwanan Wigneswaran, is trying to increase public awareness of bone health, especially preventing osteoporosis from an early age by initiating OsteoWalk 10,000 Steps which will start in three major cities such as Medan, Jakarta, and Surabaya.
This is related to physical activity such as 10,000 feet per day which can effectively help maintain bone strength and prevent osteoporosis.
The reason is, this activity is included in the type of weight-beaming exercise, exercises that take advantage of their own weight to put natural pressure on the bone. Light pressure occurs every time your feet tread stimulate bone cells (osteoblas) to form a new bone tissue.
This process is important to maintain bone density, especially in adults and the elderly when bone mass begins to decline. In addition to strengthening bones, walking also trains muscles around the bone, maintains body balance, and lowers the risk of falling, one of the main causes of fractures in people with osteoporosis.
If done outdoors, this activity also helps the body get the sun exposure needed to produce vitamin D, which plays an important role in calcium absorption.
"For more than 20 years, we have consistently educated the Indonesian people about the importance of preventing the risk of osteoporosis and inviting the Indonesian people to always maintain the health of the bones, joints, and muscles. This 10,000-step OsteoWalk movement invites all generations to actively participate against osteoporosis," he concluded.
