Xiaomi Ultra Electric Car Burns, Driver Dies Due To Automatic Lock Door

A tragic accident happened to a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra electric car in Chengdu, China, in the early hours of Monday, October 13, 2025. The car, which was traveling in the Tianfu Avenue area, hit the median road before it finally caught fire.

Local residents who witnessed the incident tried to help the driver, but the fire quickly devoured all parts of the vehicle, as quoted from CarNewsChina's report, Monday, October 13.

The incident occurred around 03.16 am local time. A number of other motorists stopped to help by trying to break the windshield of the car using elbows and shoes, but the glass didn't break in the slightest.

Rescue efforts are increasingly difficult as the fire spreads rapidly and extreme temperatures prevent residents from getting closer to the car. Some people are reported to have used fire extinguishers to extinguish the blaze, especially in the driver's seat.

However, his efforts were fruitless. There are allegations that the vehicle door was locked automatically after the collision, making it difficult to access the cabin.

Until now, Xiaomi Auto or Chengdu authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the incident. However, local media reported that the driver was confirmed dead in this incident.

This tragic news immediately impacted Xiaomi's shares in the Chinese market, which fell by about six point five percent shortly after news spread. This is not the first time the SU7 model has been involved in a fatal accident.

In March 2025, a similar incident killed three female students on toll roads. This series of events sparked public concerns about the safety of electric cars, especially the door system and automatic windows that could make it difficult to evacuate during an emergency.

In China, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is known as a high-performance variant of the SU7 line, with prices starting at IDR 1.3 billion.
