"This raid was carried out as a firm step in eradicating the potential for drug abuse and the circulation of alcoholic beverages without an excise permit in the jurisdiction of the Riau Islands Police," said Deputy Director of Narcotics at the Riau Islands Police AKBP Achmad Suherlan, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 13.
He explained that the raids started from Saturday (11/10) night to Sunday (12/10) early morning, visiting 11 locations, including Orion; Guiner; Zette; Bigbross; Live House; Shoot Langit; Angel Wings; Panda Club; Red Fox; and Dargon.
For hotels that are raided, including the Indorasa Hotel; Terang Bintang Hotel and boarding houses in front of the Indorasa Hotel.
The raid team was involved in elements of the Narcotics Directorate and Propam of the Riau Islands Police. Officers went to these places and conducted self-examination and luggage of visitors as well as urine tests.
"The results of the raid were nil, no abuse and circulation were found, but that does not mean the threat has stopped. This raid is important to ensure nightclubs remain under surveillance and are not space for illicit drug trafficking," said Achmad.
According to him, the THM raid, hotels and boarding houses are routinely carried out regularly as preventive and repressive efforts of the Riau Islands Police in suppressing the space for illicit drug trafficking in the area.
Achmad emphasized that efforts to eradicate narcotics did not only stop at the results of the examination, but were also directed to build awareness of the public and owners of entertainment businesses so as not to provide space for illicit drug trafficking.
"We also urge the public to jointly fight drug abuse by reporting any suspicious activity in their respective environments," he said.
