List Of Countries With The Most Expensive Internet Prices In The World 2025, Indonesia Is In First Place In Southeast Asia

YOGYAKARTA - Global Company We Are Social recently released a list of countries with the most expensive internet service prices in the world. This report shows that some countries have to pay much more expensive to gain internet connections than other countries.

In the digital era like now, the internet is no longer a luxury item, but a basic need, both for education, business, and entertainment. However, for many countries, high costs are still the main obstacle in equitable expanding digital access.

Globally, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupies the first position as the country with the most expensive internet price in the world by 2025. The average internet cost in the country reaches USD4.31 per Mbps or around IDR 71,500. One of the main causes is the limited number of internet service providers, where there are only two companies that all are owned by the state.

In second place, there is Ghana at a cost of USD2.58 per Mbps or around IDR 42,900. The country in West Africa still faces major challenges in internet equity in rural areas. Switzerland occupies the third position at a cost of USD2.07 per Mbps.

Next, Kenya and Morocco at internet costs around USD1.54 and USD1.16 per Mbps. Meanwhile, Australia and Germany are also included in the top ten list at a rate of around USD1 per Mbps, due to the area and high cost of network infrastructure.

Countries such as Canada, Pakistan, and South Africa are also still facing similar challenges. Indonesia itself is in the 12th position in the world, followed by Hong Kong, Bangladesh and Austria. For more details, here are 15 countries with the most expensive internet prices in the world, as reported by Visual Capitalist.

Meanwhile, in the Southeast Asia region, Indonesia actually occupies the first position. When compared, internet costs in Indonesia are almost 20 times more expensive than Thailand, and more than six times more than Vietnam. The following is the order of the country based on internet prices in Southeast Asia.

Ironically, even though the price of the internet in Indonesia is high, the quality is still far from expectations. Internet speed in Indonesia is one of the slowest in Southeast Asia. This shows an imbalance between the costs paid by consumers and the services they get.

The inequality in internet prices in the world in 2025 shows that global digitalization has not been evenly implemented. Countries with strong infrastructure and competition for healthy service providers tend to offer lower prices with better quality than countries with limited competition and infrastructure.
