The Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works (PU) conducted a visit to the Tremas Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) in Pacitan Regency, East Java, Friday, October 10.
The review was carried out as part of the government's steps to check the feasibility of building buildings related to the reliability and safety of Islamic boarding schools in various regions.
Mainly, are buildings that are over 100 years old and have more than 1,000 students and have 4 floors of buildings.
Direktur Jenderal Cipta Karya Kementerian PU Dewi Chomistriana mengatakan, pihaknya melakukan kunjungan ke ponpes ke ketiga, yakni Ponpes Tremas di Pacitan.
Meanwhile, Dewi has also checked the Mamba'ul Ma'arif Denanyar Islamic Boarding School in Jombang and the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School in Kediri City.
"Our agenda is to check the reliability of Islamic boarding schools, both dormitories, mosques and other facilities," Dewi said in an official statement quoted on Monday, October 13.
It is known, the Tremas Islamic Boarding School has a high historical value because it has been established since 1820. The building at the boarding school is more than two centuries old, thus requiring a thorough technical audit.
"Because the age of the hut is very old, we certainly need to check the reliability of the building in detail," he said.
In addition to examining old buildings, the Ministry of Public Works reviewed the construction project for the new madrasa complex in the Islamic boarding school area.
In fact, Dewi appreciated the implementation of the construction which was considered to have met technical standards.
"In general, the implementation of the construction has been good. Technical Kaidahs have been implemented, even the workers involved have been certified and have worked on toll road projects," he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Public Works would rebuild the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building in Sidoarjo, East Java.
Minister Dody said that actually the budget for the construction of Islamic boarding schools, which are religious institutions, is in the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag). However, considering that the Ponpes incident was a national emergency, the Ministry of Public Works took part.

Even so, said Dody, the government is open to the private sector if it wants to provide assistance in repairing other Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia with old buildings and prone to collapse.
"God willing, it will only be from the state budget, yes, but it is possible later if there is assistance from the private sector," he said.
