NTB Provincial Government Sets Drought Alert Status In Central Lombok

LOMBOK - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of NTB through the Central Lombok Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province stated that the area was still on alert for drought until October 2025.

"Central Lombok is still on drought alert," said Central Lombok BPBD Head Ridwan Ma'ruf in Central Lombok, Monday.

He said the alert status was still in effect, although it had started to rain during the dry season, so the need for clean water for people in a number of villages could still be met.

"Rain conditions still occur, even though the dry season," he said.

He said the stock of clean water availability to anticipate the 2025 dry season was running low, because the demand for clean water was still routinely carried out in accordance with requests from the public.

"A total of 54 clean water tanks have been distributed out of a total of 100 tanks prepared," he said.

He said the areas that most requested clean water were in Jonggat, East Praya, West Praya, and Praya sub-districts.

"For distribution, we have made a schedule in accordance with the requests from the public," he said.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that as many as five districts in NTB are currently entering a drought alert status due to the impact of the dry season.

"The entire NTB area is already in the dry season period. The public needs to be aware of the potential for drought hydrometeorological disasters and forest and land fires," said BMKG forecaster for NTB Climatology Station Afriyas Ulfah in a report quoted in Mataram.

The five regencies are Dompu Regency which includes Kilo and Pajo sub-districts, Bima districts including Lambitu, Lambu, Sape, and Soromandi, East Lombok Regency covering Sambelia District.

The drought alert status also occurred in Sumbawa Regency covering Labuhan Badas, North Moyo, Rhee, Sumbawa and Sumbawa Districts which included Jereleh District.

The results of monitoring days without successive rain in NTB in general are very short ranging from 1-5 days without rain to 21-30 days without rain.

However, there are also areas that experience days without rain with very long categories ranging from 31-60 days. Rhee Rain Post located in Sumbawa Regency recorded a total of 51 days without rain.
