Semarang Becomes One Of The Centers For Indonesian Celebration To Dance 2025, 750 Participants Participate In Enlivening

JAKARTA - Around 750 participants took part in the 2025 Indonesian Dance at The Park Mall, Semarang, which is one of the 11 cities that organize annual art activities.

Program Manager Indonesia Kaya, Billy Gamaliel, said that a total of more than 8,000 participants participated in this year's event which was held simultaneously in various cities in Indonesia.

"To further expand access to cultural participation for the community, Indonesia Dancing 2025 is back in six big cities, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Medan, Makassar, and Palembang," Billy said in Semarang, as quoted by ANTARA.

He added that this year Indonesia's Dance also visited five new cities, namely Surabaya, Balikpapan, Manado, Bekasi, and Karawang.

"The addition of this city reflects the enthusiasm to involve more dance lovers from various regions," he said.

Billy explained that the participants came from various backgrounds, ranging from the millennial generation, dance studios, dance communities, to students and students from various regions. Of the total 35,000 registrants, the 25'35 year age group is the most dominant with a percentage of 42 percent.

"This increase in the number of registrants is influenced by the increase in the number of host cities from year to year and because many are looking forward to the return of this Indonesian dance activity," he added.

In terms of gender composition, Billy revealed that 77 percent of the participants were women, while the remaining 23 percent were men.

Since it was first held in 2012, Indonesia Dancing is known as an event that combines the richness of Indonesian dance with modern and inclusive concepts.

At this year's event, participants appeared in a group dance format consisting of 57 people, with modern ethnic themed costumes. They are required to bring the main choreography without change, but are still given room to be creative in the floor pattern and composition of movement.

The 2025 Indonesian Danced choreography is the work of Bathara Maverick Dewantoro, a dancer and choreographer who is widely known through the Indonesia Search for Talents and gold medalists for the Traditional Dance Sport branch at PON 2024.

The choreography is accompanied by a medley of eight regional songs that are modernly rearranged by Alffy Rev, including:

Sinanggar Tulo (North Sumatra)

Kicir-Kicir (DKI Jakarta)

Cing Cangkeling (West Java)

Angin Mamiri (South Sulawesi)

Rek Come on, Rek (East Java)

Indung-Indung (East Kalimantan)

Si Patokaan (North Sulawesi)

Rasa Sayange (Maluku)

The combination of traditional music and contemporary touch presents an attractive and energetic harmony.

After the simultaneous dance session, the field judges assessed the appearance of each group and chose the best finalists from each zone to return to the main stage.
