When Filling Fuel, The Fuel Tank Car Caught Fire At The Kemanggisan Gas Station, West Jakarta

JAKARTA - An oil fuel tank (BBM) caught fire at the Kemanggisan Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU), Palmerah, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Saturday, October 11.

Head of the Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Syarifudin, said that the incident that occurred at around 03.58 WIB was triggered by sparks from the fuel filling dynamo.

"The incident began when the fuel filling car (fuel tank) experienced sparks from the charging dynamo while loading (loading fuel) from the car tank to the gas station tank," said Syarifudin when confirmed in Jakarta.

Syarifudin said the fire was suspected to be due to a fuel tank car containing 24,000 liters on fire. "Dinamo, a filling device occurred, a fire jump," he said.

There were no fatalities in this incident, but the losses incurred reached Rp. 2.5 billion. "There were minor injuries, 1 person, namely Ramdani, who was 40 years old in his supervisory position," he said.

A local resident, Niman (61) revealed that the fire incident began with an explosion that was heard down to his home area. Even though Niman's house is far across from the Kemanggisan gas station.

"Initially, when I started, I woke up, it happened. The child said, 'Sir, what ismbledak', so I immediately went out, I saw it," said Niman at the location.

When Niman came out, a tank of BBM's car was caught on fire and the fire broke out violently.

Instantly residents panicked and rushed out to save themselves. They are worried that the fire will impact the surrounding buildings.

"I'm worried that someone who is really close, if I'm my child, I'll say 'Yes sir, no need to panic, just relax'," said Niman as reported by Antara.

"At least the workshop on the edge took out the car, the one who was scared was there (a semi-permanent contract) at all fears," he said.

According to him, no one dared to approach or help the blackout process. They just watched from afar and waited for the firefighters to arrive.

"I'm afraid it's close, so just look at it, when 1 fire car came, it was extinguished," he said.

At the location, it appears that the rest of the fire is still covering the car. Authorities have also covered the vehicle with orange tarpaulins.

The police line was also installed around the tank car, attracting the attention of passing motorists.

The Kemanggisan gas station also closed its operations so that no driver filled the fuel.
