Jokowi And Prabowo's Meeting Was More Political Than National Dialogue
JAKARTA Executive Director of the Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO), Dedi Kurnia Syah, admitted that he did not capture the nuances of dialogue or discussion of national issues during the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with President Prabowo Subianto.
"In fact, I saw a stronger political nuance in the meeting than talking about national issues," he said, Sunday, October 12, 2025.
According to him, there are several things that make Jokowi's move to meet Prabowo with a strong political content, compared to nationality. First, Jokowi tried to seek Prabowo's protection from public pressure regarding the scandal involving the former governor of Jakarta.
"Starting from the issue of diplomas, to rumors of Jokowi's involvement in cases being handled by the KPK, for example, regarding the corruption of Nadiem Makarim to Riza Chalid which is very likely to drag Jokowi's name," he added.
Second, continued Dedi, Gibran Rakabuming Raka's legitimacy as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia began to be sued, which was seen with issues similar to Jokowi's, namely related to diplomas to the legitimacy of candidacy which was considered to damage the constitution.

On the other hand, Prabowo has never been concerned about the scandal from Jokowi and his family, so it is suspected that he has disturbed the former PDIP cadre. "All the scandals involving Jokowi and his family, Prabowo has so far been silent without any sign of defending or siding with Jokowi, thus allowing Jokowi to be furious," he said.
In addition, Jokowi's move to meet Prabowo got thicker and more politically charged after loyalists or supporters were hit by Prabowo's reshuffle. Dedi assessed that Jokowi was certainly restless when he saw the removal of Budi Arie Setiadi to Hasan Nasbi from the Red and White Cabinet. "In fact, it is not impossible that Jokowi will get a complaint if there is a chance, Prabowo tries to clean Jokowi's loyalists from the Palace circle," he said.
Finally, Jokowi's decision to meet Prabowo certainly cannot be separated from the desire to strengthen Gibran's relationship with the General Chair of Gerindra. "This situation is very much needed by Jokowi in order to seek Prabowo's support," added Dedi.
