BMKG: NTT Seawave Reaches 2.5 Meters Until October 15, 2025

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the potential for waves in the waters of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) sea could reach 2.5 meters on Sunday (12-15/10).

"Be aware of the potential for sea waves as high as 1.25 to 2.5 meters in a number of NTT waters on October 12-15, 2025," said Head of the Tenau Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station Yandri Anderudson Tungga in Kupang, Sunday.

He said wave heights of 1.25-2.5 meters are likely to occur in the waters of the southern part of the Sape Strait, the western Sumba Strait, the Savu Sea, the southern waters of Sumba, the northern waters of Sabu-Raijua, the southern waters of Timor-Rote, the southern waters of Sabu-Raijua.

"While synoptically, wind patterns in the NTT region generally move from northeast to southeast with wind speeds ranging from 4 to 20 knots," said Yandri.

The highest wind speed was observed in the southern waters of Alor-Pantar, Sumba Strait, Ombai Strait, southern Sumba waters, Sabu-Raijua waters, northern waters of Kupang-Rote, Pukuafu Strait, and southern waters of Timor-Rote which have the potential to increase sea wave heights in these waters.

The BMKG has issued an early warning of high waves and the potential for strong winds effective from Sunday (12/10) to Wednesday, October 15. In addition, the BMKG also issued shipping safety advice to sea transportation service users.

Fishermen's boat users should be vigilant if the wind speed reaches 15 knots and the wave height reaches 1.25 meters.

The operator of barges should be vigilant if the wind speed reaches 16 knots and the wave height reaches 1.5 meters.
