Lamont Roach's Determination To Conquer Pitbull Cruz For The Title Of Super WBC Lightweight World Champion
JAKARTA - Super lightweight boxer (63.5 kg) Lamont Roach is determined to stop interim World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Isaac Pitbull Cruz to take him for the WBC super lightweight world title held by Subriel Marias.
"If I win, I will be a candidate for the WBC title, Subriel Matias," Lamont Roach said in a report by The Ring quoted in Jakarta, Sunday.
Roach will fight Isaac Cruz on December 6 at the Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, Texas.
Going up to the heavyweights to fight against Cruz was not an arbitrary decision taken by Roach, because he had a big plan to become a WBC world champion.
Therefore, the step that must be taken is to beat Cruz who is a tough opponent for anyone.
Meanwhile, WBC super lightweight world champion Subriel Matias became the world champion twice in that class after defeating Alberto Puello in New York on July 12.
However, before facing the challenges of his rivals, including Roach if he wins over Cruz, Matias must first face mandatory challenger Dalton Smith. Both will fight on January 10 at an undetermined location in New York.

For Roach, defeating Cruz, who has a record 28 wins with 18knockouts (KOs), three defeats, and one 18-KO series) and Matias with a record 23 wins (22 KOs) and two defeats will significantly increase his status and enthusiasm.
The 30-year-old boxer challenged his fortune by fighting against Gervonta Davis and ending a controversial majority draw on March 1 which turned Davis' perfect record 30 wins (28 knockouts) and one draw.
Many, including Roach, thought they would fight again. However, even though Davis used a rematch clause, he chose not to and would face Jake Paul in an exhibition match on November 14.
Even though he still wants a rematch, Roach, who has a record 25 wins (10 knockouts), one defeat, and two draws, won't beg for that. All he wants is to focus on building his legacy.
I believe in my hard work. I want to prove that I am one of the best boxers in the world," he said.
