Indonesia-North Korea Signs MoU Update For The Establishment Of Bilateral Consultations
JAKARTA - Indonesia and North Korea signed an agreement update to deepen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
The signing was carried out by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (RRDK), the official name of North Korea, Choe Son-hui, Saturday 11 October.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its statement wrote that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultations will be a forum for exploring the potential for cooperation in various fields, including politics, social-culture, technical and sports.
"This MoU update reaffirms the longstanding friendship and the commitment of the two countries to continue to deepen bilateral relations that have lasted more than six decades," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
Foreign Minister Sugiono was in Pyongyang during an official working visit on October 10-11, becoming the first visit by the Indonesian Foreign Minister to North Korea in the last 12 years.
During this visit, Foreign Minister Sugiono also emphasized Indonesia's readiness to facilitate closer engagement between the RDK and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including through increasing RRDK participation in ASEAN-led mechanisms such as the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
During an official working visit at the invitation of the North Korean government, Foreign Minister Sugiono also attended the 80th anniversary of the Korean Workers' Party.

It is known that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the RDK have existed since the 1960s, based on the spirit of solidarity and mutual respect between the two leaders and the nation.
The visit of Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's ongoing commitment to encourage constructive engagement and cooperation with RDK.
