Central Java BNN Increases Drug Prevention Through Ahmad Yani International Airport

SEMARANG The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Central Java Province intensified efforts to prevent cross-border narcotics trafficking by activating the Interdiction Task Force at Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang.

This step was taken following the reopening of international flight routes at the airport since April 2025. Several direct flights from and abroad, such as Malaysia and Singapore, are now back in operation from Semarang.

"This interdiction task force involves a number of related parties, such as Customs, Immigration, and Airport authority Ahmad Yani," said Head of BNN Central Java Province, Brigadier General Pol. Agus Rohmat, in Semarang, Saturday 11 October.

He explained that increased supervision was carried out strictly against the flow of people and goods, either by air or by sea, to anticipate the potential for drug smuggling.

"We realize that the reopening of international flight routes increases the vulnerability to narcotics trafficking. Therefore, the synergy and vigilance of all parties is very important," he said.

In addition to strengthening coordination between agencies, the Central Java BNN also continues to develop information networks with partners abroad as an early detection measure against potential narcotics threats.

"Information from overseas networks is very important in early prevention. We continue to build and strengthen cooperation at the international level," he added.

This effort is part of BNN's commitment to eradicating illicit drug trafficking, as well as ensuring the security of international entrances in the Central Java region is maintained.
