The Surge In Goods Delivery, KAI Daop 9 Adds Bagation Carriages In Pandalungan Trains

As a result of the surge in the volume of goods transported, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 9 Jember added one baggage train to the Pandalungan train series of the Jember-Jakarta (PP) connection.

"The addition is a direct response to the surge in demand for significant goods delivery services through rail transportation modes," said KAI Legal and Public Relations Manager Daop 9 Cahyo Widiantoro in Jember, East Java, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, October 11.

According to him, KAI is taking strategic steps to answer the increasing needs of the community and business actors, so that a baggage train is officially added to the Pandalungan train series with the Jember Station to Gambir, Jakarta, and vice versa.

"It's not just an increase in carriages, but our answer to the greater public and business people's trust in KAI freight transportation services," he said.

He said his party saw a strong economic pulse in the Tapal Kuda and KAI regions wanting to be part of the growth.

This trust is clearly reflected in the data, throughout the period January to September 2025, the realization of goods transportation in Daop 9 Jember has reached 26,466 tons.

"This figure exceeds the target set at 8,990 tons or its achievement has skyrocketed to 208 percent," he said.

He said the presence of a baggage train at Pandalungan Train now provides a new alternative that complements the existing service at the Blambangan Train (Ketapang-Pasar Senen PP).

"People and business actors from Jember and Banyuwangi who want to send goods to Jakarta have two main choices. That means higher flexibility, competitive rates, faster and more reliable travel time, and wider reach," he said.

Cahyo said the addition of goods transportation facilities was in line with KAI's commitment to realizing sustainable transportation.

"The train as a mode of mass transportation, has proven to have much lower carbon emissions than other land transportation modes," he said.

KAI Daop 9 Jember also proactively opens the door of cooperation with various parties, ranging from logistics business actors, the industrial sector, to local governments, to jointly strengthen the train-based distribution network and the synergy has a wider social impact.
