Caught Hand Selling Forest Cats, Protected Animal Seller Arrested During COD At Muara Baru Fish Market
JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Muara Baru Regional Police has arrested a boss of the protected animal trade from East Jakarta on Jalan Pasar Ikan Modern, Muara Baru area, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta.
The suspect with the initials ASM (27) was caught red-handed by the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Muara Baru Regional Police, Ipda Fauzy Widi while making a payment transaction on the spot or cash on delivery (COD) of a jungle cat (Prionaisurus Bengalensis). The suspect was arrested along with evidence of a 2-month-old jungle cat.
Kapolsek Kawasan Muara Baru, AKP Kurniawan mengatakan, modus operandi yang dilakukan tersangka ASM adalah menjual dan menawarkan satwa dilindungi satu ekor awan liar jenis prionaisurus benggalensis melalui media sosial Facebook.
"We have uncovered the crime of trafficking in protected animals in the jurisdiction of the Muara Baru Regional Police, Tanjung Priok Port Police," AKP Kurniawan told reporters, Friday, October 10, 2025, evening.
Then the suspect ASM was arrested based on a cyber patrol carried out by the Muara Baru Regional Police. The perpetrator previously offered and sold via Facebook social media and continued via WhatsApp.
"We were on cyber patrols and found trading in jungle cats. We undercover buy making purchases," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Muara Baru Regional Police, Ipda Fauzy Widi, added that the arrest of ASM was carried out after his party carried out cyber patrols and found the perpetrators who were selling protected animals online.
After that, officers investigated whether the animals being traded were really protected by coordinating with the BKSDA and it turned out that it was indeed a protected forest cat.
Officers immediately carried out an undercover buying by ordering the wildlife online with cash on delivery for IDR 750 thousand.
And finally the perpetrator was willing to take the two-month-old animal to a designated location, namely the Muara Baru area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
"We are currently arresting and we are entrusting this animal at PPS Tegal Luar so that this animal gets treatment," said Ipda Fauzy.
Officers secured evidence in the form of cash, a motorbike, a jungle cat cub, cardboard and cell phone.
"Currently, the perpetrator is already at the Muara Baru Police Headquarters for further investigation," he said.
For his actions, the suspect ASM was charged with Article 40A paragraph 1 letter d in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph 2 letter a law no. 32 of 2024 concerning amendments to law no. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems. The suspect faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
