Bahlil Wants To Cut Geothermal Licensing From A Year To 3 Months
JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that he would cut licensing for the Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) project from more than a year to just three months.
According to Bahlil, one of the problems that hinder the development of geothermal projects is long-lasting regulations and licensing.
For this reason, he intends to cut the licensing process which was previously convoluted to be simpler.
"The heat on the earth has a permit for up to 1 year, it's not finished. But now we have started changing, it's enough for 3 months, it's finished," Bahlil said in his remarks at the International Sustainable Forum (ISF), Friday, October 10.
Bahlil added that not only would he shorten the licensing process, but he would also speed up the tender process so that the geothermal project would run immediately.
"So, this is the part we do to respond quickly to what we can do together," said Bahlil.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) noted that there were 876.5 Mega Watt (MW) additional power plants from New Renewable Energy (EBT) from January to June 2025.
