Trump Bites Finger! Venezuelan Opposition Leader Maria Corina Machado Wins Nobel Peace Prize
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump must bite his finger. The Nobel Peace Prize he coveted fell to the leader of Venezuela's opposition, Maria Corina Machado.
Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to fight for democratic rights in his country and his struggle to achieve a transition to democracy, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in a statement.
"When authoritarians seize power, it is very important to reward the brave freedom defenders, who rise and fight back," the committee said in a statement.
The committee voted to focus on Venezuela today, in years dominated by repeated public statements by US President Donald Trump who claims he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

Ahead of the announcement, the award experts said Trump would not win it because he destroyed the international order upheld by the Nobel Committee.
The Nobel Peace Prize, worth 11 million Swedish kronas, or about 1.2 million, will be presented in Oslo on December 10, coinciding with the commemoration of the death of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, founder of the award, as stated in his 1895 will.
