The Ministry Of Public Works Opens Hotline 158 For Reliability Consultation Of Islamic Boarding School Buildings To Orphanages

JAKARTA Follow up on the disaster that occurred at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Buduran District, Sidoarjo Regency, the Ministry of Public Works (PU) moved quickly by opening a special hotline route for the community or Islamic boarding school managers who wanted to consult on the reliability of building buildings. Not only Islamic boarding schools, but hotline channels can also be used for orphanages/School services.

This service can be accessed via telephone 158 (MONDAY's working day) Friday, 08.30'16.00 WIB) and WhatsApp Center 0815 10000 158 by selecting the 'Panti Asuhan/Sekolah/Yayasan's Consultation Service.

All services are provided free of charge, as a form of government support for community-based education providers.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that this program is a concrete step in strengthening the security system of religious education buildings and increasing public awareness of the importance of building technical permits and eligibility throughout Indonesia.

"We have opened this hotline so that people, especially pesantren, can report or ask for assistance if they feel they are prone to collapse or do not have a building permit. The PU Ministry team throughout Indonesia is ready to go directly to check and assist," said Minister Dody.

This quick step is part of an effort to develop buildings nationally, especially for religious educational institutions that are generally built independently.

The Ministry of Public Works has also prepared support for renovations and reconstruction for Islamic boarding schools with priority buildings over 50 years of age, accommodating more than 500 students, having high risk, more than two floors and being built without certified construction workers.

"We want to make sure the pesantren building is safe and in accordance with technical standards. Many Islamic boarding schools stand up with the spirit of mutual cooperation, but not all of them pay attention to the aspects of structure and licensing. Therefore, we open free assistance so that the licensing and assessment process goes well," added Minister Dody.

The Ministry of Public Works Hotline serves two main types of consultations, namely Building Reliability Consultation, covering simple buildings (broad <500 m2, maximum two floors) and non-simple buildings (>500 m2, more than two floors).

Priority is given for Islamic boarding schools, schools, orphanages, and foundations that do not yet have technical capabilities, do not yet have Building Agreement (PBG), or are built without involving certified experts as well as Consulting for PBG management and Functional Feasibility Certificates (SLF) for all types of buildings, including assistance for Islamic boarding schools that are currently or will apply for permits.

As a medium-term follow-up, until December 2025, the Ministry of Public Works will conduct a sampling assessment of the reliability of Islamic boarding schools in eight provinces with the highest number of Islamic boarding schools, namely West Java, East Java, Banten, Central Java, Aceh, South Kalimantan, South Sumatra, and South Sulawesi.

From this total, at least 80 Islamic boarding schools will be selected as samples, both those that have been established and those that are being built or renovated.
